I am a Senior Systems/Network Engineer with over seven years of outstanding experience in a wide variety of environments. I have worked in and with small, medium and large scale systems engineering projects and businesses, in a variety of support and engineering roles.
I am a highly driven individual, who has regularly proven an ability and willingness to stretch my own capabilities and knowledge in order to provide a suitable systems engineering solution to any given problem, both in support of existing systems and in the creation of new systems. I pride myself on my ethics and integrity, and am well-trusted by all who know me. I am also known for my skills in identifying both current best practices and trends, without compromising on systems engineering best practices or existing system capabilities.

Work History
February 2009 to Present: Specialist Network Engineer, The University of Queensland (UQ).
The University of Queensland is one of Australia's premier learning and research institutions. From a network perspective, it runs one of the largest local and wide area networks in Queensland, with the University Networks team responsible for approximately 30,000 data outlets across a range of campuses and locations. As a specialist network engineer, I am responsible for dealing with a range of design, architecture, and production artefacts and issues on a daily basis, as well as taking technical charge of a team of ten staff on a needs basis.
October 2007 to January 2009: Senior Network Engineer, Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS).
The Australian Institute of Marine Science is Australia's premier tropical marine science institution. As a federal government institute, its mission is to conduct research that advances understanding of our oceans and coastal ecosystems. As a key part of the Information Technology section of AIMS, it is my responsibility to maintain and develop the network infrastructure in a manner suitable to the goals of the Institute.
Core Achievements
- Redeployment of a substantial portion of the Institute's aging server platforms onto VMware ESX/VirtualCenter within one month of the direction to proceed
- Deployment of new remote site infrastructure to support 30+ users within 3 months from initial management request
- Coordination between vendors and suppliers to deliver a Cisco Survivable Remote Site Telephony system to support 30+ remote users
- Installation of new network control/monitoring device based on PacketLogic product line from Procera Networks

Responsibilities
- Development and management of the Institute's logical and physical data and voice networks (LAN, WAN, SAN) and associated infrastructure, including configuration, upgrades and ongoing maintenance of wiring cabinets, switches, routers, wireless access points and other network appliances.
- Development and implementation of standards and strategies for the management and maintenance of the Institute's LAN/WAN/SAN infrastructure, including security management, monitoring and analysis, fault resolution, and performance and capacity management.
- Auditing, configuration, and maintenance of network level services including 802.1x, remote access, DNS, DHCP, WINS, QoS, and authentication services.
- Maintain documentation of configuration, code, processes and procedures.
- Liaison with vendors and coordination of contractors for cabling and equipment installations.
July 2005 to September 2007: Systems/Software Integration Engineer, Boeing Australia Limited.
Project Vigilare is a large systems integration project for the Royal Australian Air Force, to provide a new command and control capability for the Air Defence of Australia. The project involves the integration of existing software with tailor-made systems and software.
My responsibility is as the responsible engineer for specifications relating to System Management, consoles, and computing systems, providing advice, guidance, and specification modification to the affected subsystems. I am also responsible for giving guidance to teams and team members on issues relating to computing platform and network performance, security, and management tasks. Finally, I am responsible for all matters relating to the integration of system management software onto Solaris platforms deployed into the project.
Responsibilities
- Manage Solaris 9 and 10 installations while in early integration through test, including incorporation of custom built flash archives and automatic deployment instructions.
- Deliver advice on the correct management of Solaris 9 and 10 installations within the project, in particular within the system management subsystem.
- Provide reviews on subsystem specifications to the stringent levels required in aircraft-critical systems.
- Act as Responsible Engineer for specifications relating to System Management, Consoles, and computing platforms.
- Be the final point of approval for critical documents relating to system and network management configuration items.
- Attend design reviews and architecture forums, and provide input on areas of expertise.
May 2004 to March 2005: Build Coordinator, Boeing Australia Limited.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of the Software Engineering Management Plan as it pertains to software build management.
- Write and maintain the Coding Standard for Java and Python as they pertain to use within Boeing Australia.
- Provide work instructions and plans, in accordance with the Software Engineering Management Plan, for the use of the source control system (Subversion) and the build management and comprehension tool (Maven).
- Supply advice and guidance to software engineers in the configuration and use of Subversion and Maven.

- Design, configure and test an automated Unit Test and Integration Test framework.

From time to time, Boeing Australia engages engineers in the bid phase of systems engineering projects. My skills have been utilised on several bids, including a bid for a command and control project in the Middle-East, and on the network and information systems component of a Unmanned Aerial Vehicle project.
